Thrush Treatment Capsules contain an antifungal that can be used to treat female genital thrush (candidiasis) and can be used by a male partner to treat associated male thrush (balanitis).
Thrush is caused by a yeast (or fungus), which may live harmlessly and unnoticed in the vagina.
Under certain circumstances, it may develop into an infection and symptoms may spread to the surrounding area. The symptoms may include one or more of the following:
- Itching of the vagina and surrounding area (the vulva)
- Redness and swelling of the tissues of the vagina and vulva
- Soreness of the vagina and vulva
- White non-smelling discharge from the vagina
Thrush may be aggravated by intercourse, but it is not an STD. Thrush can sometimes be passed to a partner through intercourse.
If a male partner has thrush, one or more of the following symptoms may be present:
- Soreness and redness of the penis
- Tightness of the foreskin
- A white non-smelling penile discharge

Pregnancy/Breastfeeding
Thrush capsules can be taken in pregnancy if other treatments have not worked but only if advised by a GP or healthcare professional.
In the presence of thrush symptoms, ask a GP for advice about treatment, who may prescribe clotrimazole or a similar antifungal medicine. This may be as a cream or as a soft tablet (a pessary). If the thrush does not go away, they may prescribe a single dose 150mg Thrush capsules. They'll discuss the risks and benefits to the mother and baby.
